I meet a lot of wonderfully interesting people in my line of work. Sometimes, they are beyond interesting. Sometimes they are extraordinary. On January 30th, in a coffee shop downtown, I met Quinn. We had arranged to meet there that morning. I had done little research about Quinn. All I knew was what I was told; that she is beautiful and lives an interesting life. When she arrived, she was even more beautiful than the photos I had seen of her. The tall, natural beauty and I sat at a table by some windows and I snapped a few photos as we talked about a mix of subjects, ranging from modeling and photography to travel and philosophy.
Quinn told me about her adventurous life with her boyfriend, Jonathon. Together, they formed an organization called "Life Out of the Box" and have lived in and traveled to such places as Nicaragua, Guatemala and Morocco, working with local educational non-profits and local artisans to produce unique products and provide school supplies, nutritional packets and food to people in need. I highly recommend a visit to their website: http://lifeoutofthebox.com/ to learn more about their passionate efforts to make a positive difference in the world and follow their adventures.
Following our conversation, we stepped outside for a brief, no-prep test shoot. These test shoots can be very helpful in establishing a working rapport and to test for a good chemistry between model and photographer. The right connection can often result in truly remarkable imagery (More about that chemistry in a future post). As evident in these examples, Quinn and I had a good connection and managed to create some pretty decent first images for such a quick, informal shoot. Her experience and posing skill was readily evident and she was very easy to direct. When the shoot was finished, we discussed working together to update her modeling portfolio, as she recently signed with Brink Models in Edmond.
This young woman is beautiful inside and out. I am glad I met her and I look forward to working with her more in the near future. Stay tuned!
